KIDS SONGS ORIGINALS
Many years ago when my kids were in primary school I was amazed at the quality of music and books which were available for children.
In Australia, artists such as Peter Combe, Robyn Archer and Gillian Eastoe were producing records and CDs which could be enjoyed by children and adults at different levels. The songs were well written, melodical and lyrically clever. There was no attempt to 'dumb-down' the material or be patronising to the kids.
Similar things were happening in kids' literature with writers like Paul Jennings and Morris Gleitzman writing about things that kids wanted to read about, with wit and style in a way which encouraged kids to want to read.
Inspired by those referred to above I decided to try my own hand at writing a 'Rock Opera' for primary-aged and early high school kids.
I got as far as completing three songs and then 'The Wiggles' hit the scene and were followed by 'Hi Five' and there appeared little point in proceeding further.
I had forgotten about the songs and the concept until I recently put a tape into the car cassette which had a rough (very rough) version that I had recorded on 4-track. Although I'm biased, rehearing the songs brought a little smile to my face and I thought I try to resurrect them.
Comments of subscribers and visitors (whether favourable or unfavourable) would be appreciated.
Originally I had samples of my home demos of the songs on the page, but eventually I got round to doing studio versions which are now posted at mixposure. Click on the song titles below to listen to the tracks. The page that you will be sent to also contains the lyrics for the song.
