MIDLIFE CRISIS came into existence in about 1994 in somewhat unusual circumstances.

I was at that time, for my sins, President of Lugarno Public School's P&C Association. The P&C was about to hold a fund-raising dinner dance but had no funds to hire a band.

Although SIRRAH had disbanded some 16-17 years earlier I had continued to play at home and had purchased a synthesiser. I placed an ad in the school's newsletter for parents who could play an instrument to contact me and I received three replies. MID LIFE CRISIS was formed.

At the first gig, we played, so far as I can remember, about 3 brackets. The audience was never going to be hostile, given the circumstances. Nonetheless, the reception was better than any of us could have expected.  A competition was held during the night for a name for the band, and the winner was certainly apposite.

We played a few more gigs for Lugarno P&C and eventually from word of mouth we gained more work.

The band consisted of:

John Zographakis

Vocals and Keyboard

Costa Vasili

Guitars and bouzouki

Laurie Howes

Rhythm Guitar and backing vocals

Brian Ralston:

Keyboards, guitar, and vocals

Unfortunately, by the time of our formation we were all pursuing professional careers, John as an accountant, Costa as an electrical engineer, Laurie as a Professor in Pharmacology and myself in the profession about which I dare not speak. As a result it has proved difficult for us to all find the time to get together to practice.

Nonetheless, and despite the emergence of SELF TORT, MID LIFE CRISIS still returns Lazarus-like. At the present time it is a very modular band - depending upon who is available we perform as anything from a two-piece, three piece or four piece.

MID LIFE CRISIS never made in into a recording studio. A live tape recording was made of one of our gigs at Oatley West School. Its present whereabouts is unknown but if it can be located and converted to MP3 I will arrange for samples to be included on the site.
