MORTDALE HOTEL

I'm back at this Mortie this Friday (4.8.06) from 8-12. Got some new original/collab songs that I'll be playing live for the first time.

Come along, have a beer, a dance and a chat.

RADIO AIRPLAY

Amrap recommended that I provide them with 60 copies of the CD to distribute to community radio stations around the country. They've now gone out. I've included a list of the stations on Community Radio page. Have a look at the list and see if any of the stations are in your range and if so feel free to contact the station to request a track or two.

NEW SONGS

I have recently posted three new songs on Mixposure. Two are collaborations with my great mixpo mate Lex Zaleta. The songs and the links are as follows:

WHAT CAN I SAY

I'd had this tune worked out for some time, but couldn't come up with words, or even a subject matter. Called in the Cavalry in the form of Lex Zaleta (whose 'Fastest Way to Gone' I'd done an arrangement of) and he came up with the goods. It's a gentle love song. At this stage just a 'garage demo' so it will need to be tidied up in the studio

HORIZONTAL DANCER

Lex must have got a bit raunchy the other day as he sent me the lyrics for a song which was originally called 'Honor Back'. As I read them, the words immediately formed themselves into a song, and the whole thing took just a couple of days. Again, a rough 'garage demo' but a heck of a lot of fun.

BOOT SCOOT SHOOTING

This is a bit of nonsense, and my belated response to that godawful 'Achy Breaky Heart' and the fad of 'line-dancing' and 'boot scooting' that seemed to follow it. The recording is pretty rough. I described it on mixpo as similar to a fart. I felt better to get it out, but don't necessarily think your comfort will be enhanced by it. You should at least get a laugh or smile out of it. I started writing it years ago and was reminded of it by Lex' words for 'Horizontal Dancer'. Couldn't remember what I'd written so started again.

I will be roadtesting each of these songs live on Friday 4 August, 2006 at the Mortdale Hotel.

FLASH NEWS 13 July 2006

On 13 July, 2006 Tony Jaggers of 2EAR FM played 9 tracks from my CD on his show on Radio Eurobodalla. Here's a copy of the playlist (for a clearer view go here)

Also, Taaleah has asked me to return to Radio Skid Row on 31 August, 2006 for another interview and some live performance in the studio

SELF TORT'S CD: 'N.I.C'

SELF TORT'S CD is now available. Click here for details

The CD has been picked up by a number of internet and community radio stations:

ichannelmusic

This internet station is run by Bonneville, whom, I am told, is the second largest commercial FM radio company in the USA. They apparently use their internet station as a 'feeder' for their commercial stations, which can possibly mean that if your tracks do well on the internet station there is a chance of exposure on their commercial stations.

So far they've chosen 'UNVICTORIAN VICTORIA' and 'GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME'.

I would ask that, if you like what you've heard about my music, please click the ichannel link above, and

  1. Make a request for one of my songs at the 'Make A Request' section at the top of the page
  2. Give each of the songs a rating. It's your call, but a 'five tick' would be nice.

There is no limit to the number of times you can vote, so vote every day, every week, as often as you think about it.

Night Grooves Radio

Since joining mixposure.com I've become good friends with a number of the other artists on the site. One of the real good guys over there is a talented songwriter/vocalist/guitarist by the name of R S Cain ('RSC'). RSC decided to take the 'bull by the horns' and give some exposure for his fellow 'mixpo members' and set up his own internet station. It started out being a couple of hours a week but the show he put on today (11 July, 2006 Sydney time) went for 8 hours......and all of the music was from artists on mixposure.

Even when he's not on himself, he tends to replay the music from the show, so that the chances are, that if you click on the 'Night Grooves Radio' link above his show will be going.

But, I've got to say that part of the charm of the show is RSC himself 'doing the DJ thing'. If you tune in on a Tuesday morning from about 9am Sydney time you can hear the show going to air live. If you want to make your work environment more pleasant, tune in to RSC's show and let the music and RSC's great sense of fun and love of music entertain you.

I guarantee that you will hear some tracks that will really make you wonder why you can't hear them on commercial radio. Night Grooves Radio rocks and RSC is one hell of a great guy.

If you missed the earlier link to his own website, click here have a listen to his music on his site, then head over to CDBaby to purchase his current CD.

RADIO SKID ROW (2RSR 88.9 FM)

Back in May, 2006 I had the pleasure of being interviewed by Taaleah and Virginia of Action Break Theatre on their weekly radio show on Radio Skid Row (88.9FM).

It was a great experience and Taaleah and Virginia have, since the interview, continued to play tracks from my CD, and tracks that I've collaborated on with other mixposure artists, on their show.

The show is broadcast every Thursday from 4-6pm and is a mix of music and topical discussion. Action Break Theatre has been set up to give female ex-prisoners the chance to 'find their voice' with a view to helping them avoid re-offending.

Every fortnight, a member of the Songwriting Society of Australia gets the chance to appear, be interview by two delightful ladies and have their music exposed. And talk about exposed, when I was on, after Virginia had mentioned that she thought my voice sounded like Joe Cocker, Taaleah persuaded me to do an a capella version of 'You Are So Beautiful'.

Eurobodalla Radio 2 EAR FM 107.5

Tony Jaggersof Eurobodalla Radio (2EAR FM 107.5) has picked up the CD for his  MOJOS and JELLYROLLS show which is broadcast every Wednesday night from 6-8.30pm

So far, geography has precluded me from being able to listen to Tony's show, but from my reading of the playlists that I've seen I'm in pretty classy company. Tony's show has a 'blues/roots' focus and other artists on his playlists include Kevin Borich, Phil Manning (both solo and with Chain), Mal Eastick, Mia Dyson and Johnny Winter, amongst others.

If you live down the south coast of NSW, check out Tony's show and, if appropriate, let him know how much you love my music.

Tony came across the CD by virtue of my involvement with 3000 Records, Indie360 and CDRegister , US based companies run by Terrance D. Schemansky that help promote independent music. Many thanks to Terrance for his innovation and support. If you've got some material and want an outlet for exposure click on the link above

But hopefully there is more to come. I recently submitted my CD to AMRAP which is an organisation which, amongst other things, acts as an intermediary between community radio stations and artists. They listen to your CD and assess which stations they think might be interested in listening and hopefully adding it to their playlist. They then advise you of how many CDs to send them. I was hoping that they might think somewhere between 10 and 20 might be worth sending in, but they recommended 60. They tell me the CDs were to go on 10 July, 2006 and they will let me know which stations they have been sent to, so I will post the list when I get it.

If you are in range of any of the stations and can get some feedback (hopefully positive) to the station about my music it would be greatly appreciated.

I'll keep you posted.
